Monster Week on Animal Planet Channel: Meh

Dr. Mark Evans is going to help launch Monster Week on Animal Planet with a special called "Yeti or Not." He will look at DNA from many samples. It will be on at 9 pm on Animal Planet tonight! The week will include deadly animals, river monsters, Weird, True and Freaky, Grizzlies, Tasmanian tigers, and crocs and dragons.  I admit, I'll watch the Sunday special, but I don't see a lot of excitement for a "monsters" week. I expected a whole lot more of unexplained monsters and fantasy monsters like dragons and gargoyles, Mothman, and Jersey Devil. I suppose crocodiles and grizzlies seem like monsters, but to me they are, well, animals. Come on Animal Planet!  I'd like to have seen the week launched with a vintage day - an entire day of old 70s documentaries about Bigfoot like Mysterious Monsters and The Legend of Boggy Creek. Throw us right into the era of obsession about the unexplained. A day of just fantasy monsters like dragons, gargoyles and even cave ...

Abandoned Sites

URBEX is the term for urban exploration, or exploring and photographing abandoned sites. There has been an increased interest in this passtime and i's something that I have been doing for years.  My son tells me it's because his generation inherited the broken infrastructure of the baby boomer generation. He's pretty accurate with that. Boom towns went bust, industries went under, agriculture shrank, and all those highways built with happy motels for the road trip travelers of the 1950s, 60s and 70s became abandoned as more and more families opted for cheap flights.  You can explore lots of abandoned sites on great sites like THIS ONE . It seems that Europe really owns the rights to lots of abandoned sites, as they often leave them standing. Nature takes over, plays tug-of-war with the sites like this one in West Virginia -  A little surfing on YouTube and you can find abandoned amusement parks, factories, air force bases, asylums, mansions, and more! mansion hospital Min...

Psychoacoustics - How Sound Affects Our Minds

Ancients seemed to like constructions and caves that harnessed 110 Hertz when chanting. Why? What did it do for them?  Sound can create levitation (above). That's a pretty heady thing to realize that if we understood the effects of sounds on objects, what we might learn about their effects on our bodies. Take a look at what infrasound (low frequency sound below our range to hear) can do to water -  What about the ancients and their knowledge of sound? Stone megaliths were a sought after production around the world. But why? Why drag heavy rocks sometimes hundreds of miles to use a specific variety, to cut in amazing ways and construct precise sites? Why not wood? Why not sod? What were they doing?  ( SOURCE LINK )  The many astoundingly beautiful monuments of the Giza plateau, along the Nile River in Egypt, display a remarkably precise set of engineering specifications and psychoacoustic effects that indicate an ancient biorhythmic synchronization network once oper...

Bigfoot's Use of Currency and Respect For Effigies Explained

Bigfoot is an interesting study. They are not even proven publicly and yet we gather so much information from their back and forth, the evidence they leave behind, their interactions with researchers. I have been studying for a time their symbols and customs, language, and ancestry. Today, I'd like to discuss two features that many researchers work with in hopes of sharing my preliminary conclusions on these two items; trading and effigies. Many researchers leave stuffed animals and dolls for Bigfoot. It's a fair practice and can elicit responses. What I have noticed over time and reports from researchers is that, oddly the Bigfoot do not seem to want to take stuffed animals that are too animal-like or in the colors the animals come in. For instance, they might pass up a brown monkey doll. But, they do readily take a rainbow-colored monkey instead. This had me thinking about animal symbols to the giants of old. Animal effigies were very respected and prominently incorporated in...

Upcoming Horror Movies

I'm getting tingles. Why? Well, they are coming up with a movie called "Winchester," a psychological thriller based on the eccentric heiress to the Winchester gun fortune, Sarah Winchester.  This got even better when I found out the woman playing the lead role is beloved and Academy Award-winning actress, Helen Mirren! This movie is based on Sarah Winchester, who lost her child and husband and then began to wonder if her family's money made from gun manufacturing might have cursed her. This Victorian Era woman consulted a psychic to get answers and it took her on a convoluted path. Sarah was told to move west and build a home, but never ever stop construction or she would die. For 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for 38 years, workers built useless, cobbled on, nonsensical rooms and stairways to nowhere, tore some things down, built others. And, because of Sarah's obsession with the number 13, windows had 13 panes. The home became her own feng shui masterpiece ...

The Sami Stalo: Giants?

Ancient giants - their stories come from nearly every native culture around the globe. But, what cultures might tell us the most about these globe-trotting people? I tend to look at the Northern and Eastern European regions where we had Homo sapiens, Neanderthals and Denisovans cloistered in caves. These giants appear to have been a hearty bunch, likely having evolved outside of Africa for hundreds of thousands of years before we left the continent below. To adapt to these harsh climates, one would need to be powerful, perhaps hair, certainly meat-eating, as plant matter in colder climes was not like it was in Africa where fruits and veggies abounded.  The  Sami people of Lapland  (arctic circle in Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia), are a culture that was almost completely obliterated by the Scandinavian countries who did not value their religion, art, culture and more. They were assimilated in a way that whitewashed their vast knowledge. Still, there are sources that ...

Deviant Ways: Blood Ingestion

Vampires and Dracula aside, is it possible to die by suicide when one purposely ingests large quantities of their own blood?  Ioana the Bloodthirster In 1909 in Romania, a woman known as "Ioana the Bloodthirster" (Ioana Constantinescu)  was photographed in the usual post mortem repose of the Victorian Era's morbid photography. The photo made the rounds with a legend about her demise. The only available "proof" of such a name is in a poem that speaks of the woman (called a witch), her name and her demise by drinking her own blood. Some things do not line up about the tale, such as she had been beaten within an inch of her life. This woman does not appear to be have been beaten or even severely dehydrated as she would have to be to have drained that much blood.
