Why Are There Ghosts in the Attic?

Attics can be haunted. But, why? It's not as if anyone lived in the attic when they were residing in the house.  Let's break down some of the reasons attics are often reported to be haunted -  Explainable:  There are many explainable things in the attic that can make one think they are haunted. Raccoons, rats, birds, and other creatures seek attics for shelter very often. As well, there are can be pipes and ducts through the attic that swell with heat and make noises. Some attics have vents on the ends of them which add the wind factor, riffling through and fluttering the insulation. And, lastly, most people store their off season and unused household items in the attic, often stacked in boxes, shifted around and shoved into place and forgotten, where they can move from the vibrations of the air-conditioning turning on or a rainstorm pounding on the roof.  Antiques:  What do we store in the attic? Usually family heirlooms that are either too dorky to put in the...

Renovations and Hauntings: The Startling Truths!

One of the most reported times for homeowners to have outbursts of ghostly activity occurs when they are renovating. Why is that?  Most people assume that renovations in a house must upset the ghosts and get them angry about changes being made.  I think this is a very simple way of looking at it. That is looking at it from the viewpoint of the living, as we think it would be sad and lonely to be dead and we would miss people and places here. Let's shift that perspective to the spirit world being a parallel realm. We share the same arena, but in different ways. Sometimes, in the right conditions, we sense each other. Perhaps other times, it is not even spirit activity we are dealing with.  Let's look at some possible elements involved -  The Living  There are occupants of the home affected by change. Perhaps adding a window brightens up their disposition or possibly exposure to chemicals and inhalants/molds make them feel poorly. These are environmental factors....

Phone Calls From the Dead!

A widely reported phenomena in the realm of communicating with the dead are phone calls from the deceased.  Here is a classic example from paranormal investigator, Linda DiMarchi: My mother and I had gone to the afternoon matinee Movie, I was newly married at the time and I always looked forward to having these outings with mom . My dad had died the previous year and, yes, my mother felt loss.  My younger sister Donna had stayed home, she had recently graduated from high school, but this celebrations was bittersweet. Her boyfriend Paul had been fighting a rare cancer only known to be found in horses.  Later, we had put the puzzle pieces together when we realized he had flown missions in Vietnam spraying Agent Orange from his helicopter, used to kill weeds and overgrowth, to better able see the enemy and where they were hiding. Paul was an amazing young man. He was fun to be around, a great storyteller and a zest for life like no other. It's his laugh I remember most; th...

Ghosting, Arcosanti and a Fantastic Presidential Candidate!

Julie Ferguson and I had a fun time this past weekend in Central Arizona. We had a speaking engagement about ghosts at the anniversary of the High Desert Museum . We also stayed at Arcosanti where we got to talk ghosts and demonstrate ghost hunting techniques. I recommend if you live in the Cordes Junction area that you volunteer at the museum. It is run by a group of fantastic folks who are knowledgeable and love what they do. It's becoming a real hub of the area and I'm excited to see it expand even more. The history and heritage in that area is valuable.  I have to say that my experience at Arcosanti was so profound, that I must make regular pilgrimages back throughout the year to balance myself out. I met many very educated, independent thinkers, philosophers, artists, craftsmen, and the like.  The discussions were thought-provoking and the peaceful sounds of birds, wind, and Paolo Soleri bells ringing around the grounds, grape vines and fig trees in abundance, very tast...
