The Creature From The Black Lagoon: A Classic

This 1954 movie is an absolute classic with lots of atmospheric music, exotic setting, beauty and the beast theme, and enough creepiness to give you tingles. It doesn't matter how many times you've seen this movie based on an expedition to find a prehistoric creature, it's still a favorite to play on a rainy Sunday, under the safety of a blanket and lots of popcorn. The gill man, a devonian amphibian, steals the attention in this movie, was an amazing feat for that time period to do underwater filming as extensively as this one did with costume. Air was fed into the airtight suit for underwater filming and painted bright yellow so it would show up on black and white filming in the Florida water. How beloved is it? Let's see - There are plans for a remake of Creature From the Black Lagoon. Why???

Ghost Teams Sharing Their Finds

Believe Ghost Teams sharing info to help universal understanding of phenomena. That's the way it should be. I appreciate any time they put up their reports and their videos, especially as I am researching a book about common features in haunted locations. There was a time in the worst heyday of ghost hunting popularity that teams were proprietary about locations, romancing owners of historic sites and edging out others from having access. Some, ruined reputations of other teams by spreading rumors, speaking smack about them to clients, and even courting team members from competitors to find out what the teams were up to. I'm not sure what the impetus was for these nasty hunters to enter the industry, but it certainly wasn't to ask questions, seek answers, and work as a team to further the field. Delaware Ghost Hunters share their reports at haunted locations, like this one of Ft. Delaware . My team, Arizona Paranormal Investigations shares their EVP s with the public. Thos...

Suicide Forest

This dense forest at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan is one of the world's top suicide locations. the culture in Japan would seem to like to hide their identity and shame from their families, so the youth take to the woods, destroy their ID and leave themselves to become one with nature again. The question is, what does this do for haunting? Knowing it's on an active volcanic site and carries so much bloodshed, it would seem that Aokigahara Forest (aka "Suicide Forest") would be highly haunted, especially given some very spiritual moments before the death which seems to allow a tie to be made with this natural setting. "Suicide Forest" gave "Destination Truth" one of their creepiest episodes. In the episode, they got lost, ran into a group of youths looking for grizzly scenes, found an abandoned camping site with some creepy leftovers including destroyed photos, and captured something on film that looked like a misty figure coming out of the ground. ...

Ghost Adventures Drinking Game!

"Help" Beatles Zak and the boyz are going to Kent, England to Ft. Horsted. Heaven help the UK, it may never be the same (and I suspect they may ask Americans to please not visit again). Rules to the drinking game: 1. Stay home. 2. Take a sip for every "bro," "dude," "man," every time Zak thinks a ghost touched him and every time Aaron's mouth drops open in horror. Tonight's drink? Teatini! 1 ounce chilled green tea 2 oz Grey Goose citrus-infused vodka 3/4 oz. Grand Marnier 1 tsp fresh lime juice lime slice for  garnish Fill shaker halfway with ice. Pour in the tea, vodka and Grand Marnier. Shake 20 seconds. Set aside. Pour lime juice into martini glass, swish it around in the glass and discard it when the glass is coated. Strain the shaker into the glass, garnish with lime. I will be curled up watching it and giggling, no doubt.

Ghost Hunters Do Good!

Paranormal Kicks Cancer - Illinois Are you in the Illinois area or plan to be September 15th? Then, this is your event! I love to hear about those in the paranormal community doing things for good causes and there is no better cause than cancer. I had cancer when I was 17. I was lucky enough to have it caught early enough that all I needed was invasive surgery. Julie and I are donating an interesting set of items as an auction piece - Julie and I's URBEX photography/psychic read book signed and the doll Invisible Annie from Chapter 5 that was found at a dump and psychically read for one of the chapters in the book. If the cause and cool items aren't enough to get you excited, look at the location of the event - The Haunted Infirmary Should you or your ghost team have something to contribute to this event, please get in touch with them at the link at the top of this post. What a great cause, great event, and great volunteers!

Are You Having a Piloerection?

Piloerection is the fancy word for goosebumps. This is caused by the muscles at the bases of the hairs on our bodies reacting to cold or fear. The body hairs become erect in a desire to insulate the body better by trapping air within the pores. Static electrical charges cause hairs to stand away from other hairs or repel ( kind of like that magnet trick in elementary school ). Rub a balloon against your shirt and then run it over your hair and it stands on end much the same as what your body hairs do. Encountering static electricity, fear, or cold can cause goosebumps in haunted locations, but can the paranormal do it? I’m studying static electricity a bit further in my ghost hunting theories. I’ve noticed a trend on ghost hunts between electrical storms and dry windy conditions and higher incidence of phenomenon. You’ve had it happen before on a dry day, in a dry environment, you reach for a doorknob and zap! Here in the Arizona desert, you get real scared around metal objects. You ap...

Me and Neanderthal

Did you know that Neanderthals and Cro-Magnons interbred? The conclusion has been that Neanderthals were not a different arm of man, but were just another race of man. Europeans are the result of interbreeding and that delightful and special red-haired gene-- It's believed that early 1900s scientists interpreting the fossils of Neanderthal had a very biased and prejudiced interpretation of this version of man, seeing him as ape-like and brutish and a completely different divergence of man. Their stocky bodies were perfect for the cold climate in which they inhabited. It is estimated that 1-4% of modern European and Asian DNA is of Neanderthal origin. Pale skin and red hair might very well be a reminder. Remains found in Gibraltar of a late version of Neanderthal shows the child to look like this - (the new revised version of what Neanderthal looked like) (Obviously, one of his descendants--Techno-viking)

Can You Survive a Horror Movie? Chiller Channel

Ironically, this was actually a regular series I wanted to start on here, but Chiller Channel (fantastic channel!) has a show by that very name. Here's how they describe it:   Can You Survive a Horror Movie? – the all-new original special from Chiller that will put the most terrifying horror movie moments to the test – will premiere on Friday, July 13 @ 9pm. Its iconic setting is none other than the same idyllic camp in Blairstown, NJ popularly known as the macabre “Camp Crystal Lake” in the original Friday the 13th film. Is it possible to fight a zombie, and win? Could someone live on blood alone? How long could a human being survive being buried alive? The special’s three daring hosts – Anthony Marks (Remains), Annie Unnold (Celebrity Ghost Stories) and Morgan West (Dead Souls) – will confront these and other adrenaline-pumping Hollywood moments with the help of authorities ranging from doctors to physical fitness gurus to survival experts. I am totally excited! This is the ...
