Adventure Sunday: Haunted Tours

I don't know about y'all, but I am soooo getting Halloween fever. I do this every June when we reach peak temperatures. I want to close the blinds, turn up the air-conditioning and watch horror movies and get all giddy thinking of candied apples, corn mazes, pumpkin carving and all things Halloween. With most of the country have sultry temperatures in the daytime, the idea of a nighttime ghost tour sounds pretty nice. Take advantage of the great nights and maybe even book a room downtown ( haunted hotel preferably ) and sign on for the ghost tour. Here's just some you can find around the country: Philadelphia A candlelight nighttime walking tour including alleys, parks, and cemeteries. Detroit A 3-hour tour with transport and ghost hunting tools in the metro area. Boston This one is led by costumed actors in creepy garb giving a very moody tour. Baltimore Tours include the waterfront maritime area and the historic cultural area. Atlanta they offer a walking tour and a ...

Numerology

What is numerology? Basically, it's a mystical belief that there are numbers in living things and these relate to characteristics. Any math major or scientist would tell you that, it all comes down to math. In the practice of numerology, one takes their birth name and uses it to find out what their number is. It's very similar in categorizing as astrology and birth signs. So, taking your birth full name and plugging it in here , figure out what your numerology number is. I came out a #1. You have the tools to become an original person with a creative approach to problem solving, and a penchant for initiating action. Jeez, I think all my friends will shake their heads and laugh at this one. I not only find something crazy to do in a new way no one does it, but I actually do it! I hate to just talk about shit. You have little need for much supervision, preferring to act on your own with little restraint. You are both ambitious and determined. Self-confident and self-reliant must...

Inspirational Saturday: Laugh!

I've never been accused of taking life so seriously that I had a sour face, an angry disposition or a "this isn't fair" attitude. It's a decision to laugh when others would cry, scream, or break something. Some ways I'm able to laugh about life: When I see people do asinine things, I can't help but think of comedians who point out what idiots human beings can be. I feel like I want to turn to someone and say, " did you see that? " Yup, just more evidence of what a crazy world we live in, in which no one does what you expect them to do and upon occasion do things so stupid, it's incredible. According to The Journal, a teenager was arrested by the Pennsylvania police and charged with felony daytime burglary. How did they find out? Well, the victim noticed that someone had broken into her house through a bedroom window. She also happened to check her computer…which had the burglar’s Facebook account still open. Apparently, after snatching two ex...

Sex and the Single Ghost Hunter: "Hunters"

This is a new series on Fridays. I have no idea where it will take me, but my friends encourage me to share my stories of being a single ghost hunter and the antics I get myself into. I was a sassy tomboy and I find that I understand guys and the way they think. They are easy for me to make friends with because I have a quick mind and quick wit and I in no way expect them to change for me. I absolutely get where they're coming from, I understand the hunter. What is the hunter? It's a man's instinct to see something pretty move by and want to hunt and go in for the “kill.” I've gotten over the years plenty of married men around the country contacting me through the blog and wanting to flirt. My friends sigh and complain, “What a dick! I feel sorry for his wife,” but they're missing something in the equation and that is the man choosing a woman across country he will never meet as the means to work his skills. A man becomes “taken” and it's like removing a cat...

Paranormal Challenge

Zak apparently decided to have a spin-off show in which he gets people who actually know how to ghost hunt to do it for him in a competition to get evidence. Perhaps even real EVPs that sound like language! So for this premiere episode of "Paranormal Challenge," (tonight on Travel Channel), he takes two amateur ghost hunting teams to Rolling Hills Asylum to see which team can come up with more convincing evidence. You know, I'm going to have to come up with a whole new kind of post for these nights. No music video. No drinking game. Perhaps I should have my Ken doll/Zak tell us about the show each Friday... **In a few hours, a new series post is going up, "Sex and the Single Ghost Hunter" which will be a regular Friday installment.** ** Years ago, I went on a hunt with an investigatory who so impressed me that I wanted to hunt with him again and luckily I did several times. I admire his technique and I trust his judgment more than any ghost hunter I've ever ...

Photographing Abandoned Prisons

Shooting in an abandoned prison is a bit different than the usual abandoned building. The greatest obstacle are small cells and bars. All these vertical shapes and narrow alleys make it hard to get a distant perspective. Sometimes, the perspective through the bars is more startling or the bad conditions in which a bed or a scribbled wall were positioned. Take advantage of the claustrophobia to enhance how hard it was to live in such small spaces, how forgotten and yet exposed they were. In the case of the picture in the center with the Hitler writing of a white supremacist, the bars cast a cross shape on the writing and somehow obscured their meaning; good seems to always win out over evil, hmm? **Tomorrow around 1 pm EST, I am starting my new Friday series "Sex and the Single Ghost Hunter." Don't miss it** .

Aspen Grove: A Southern Tale of Haunting Part 3 of 3

Kiddies, this is the final installment. Next week, there will be a 3-parter about my summer home when I was a kid, which also had some haunting features... We sold the estate when I was 15 and my siblings were 20, 21, 22 and 28. We moved to Arizona because father's heart was bad and the cold weather and the work on the estate was just too much. He only made it a little over a year before he passed on. I was 16 and arrived home from a sleepover to find an ambulance outside. I rushed in and saw the paramedics working on my father on the kitchen floor. They announced he passed on and my mother ushered us outside to weep when about 4 minutes later, the paramedics rushed back to say the paddles worked and they brought him back. As they wheeled my father past me, he smiled. "It was beautiful. I was at a fiord" (father was from Norway) "all my family was there, mother, father, aunt, uncles, and there were flowers that don't exist and colors that don't exist." H...

"The Lost Coast Tapes"

For release in 2012 by New Breed Entertainment, “The Lost Coast Tapes” is about a cynical investigative journalist and his documentary team traveling to a remote cabin to debunk a Cryptozoologist's claim of finding a dead Bigfoot, but their film quickly becomes a record of their life and battle against an unseen horror. I'm always a huge fan of indie films and especially ones having to do with BF!!! I am avidly following this and will be updating. If you want to follow the progress, here's a few ways: BLOG TWITTER FACEBOOK

Aspen Grove: A Southern Tale of Haunting Part 2

( Above: When we got snowed in, dad would take the old McCormick tractor and tow a car hood behind it with us kids piled up in it to pat down the snow and make it navigable ). ( Above: The little cottage ) ( Above: The Barn ) ( Above: The Big Cottage ) ( Above: My mom on the day we moved in ) The home was taken over by the North during the Civil War and used as a field hospital. Later, the South wrestled it back and used it for the same. Both sides died in there. The wood floors were still stained black with their blood. We dug up and archived an enormous amount of relics in a showcase. We found plenty of arrowheads, dolls, bayonets, bullets, guns, medals, horseshoes, wagon parts, and so much more. For my mother, the haunting realization began as soon as we moved in. She heard the sounds of booted footsteps up the stairs at night, traveling down the hall to the middle bedroom, resting on an old floorboard in front of the iron radiator. When father was back in town from a trip, he menti...
