GHOST HUNTERS

Next Wednesday looks awesome! Check at this fantastic site ( a great place to read reviews of the shows the following day ) to see the preview for the chilling "Ghost Hunters" on the 23rd. Following that, "Destination Truth" does what no one has been allowed to do before--spend a night doing a study at King Tut's Tomb! You'll have to decide which to record, but at the same time "Destination Truth" is on, The History Channel is showing "Mysterquest" about the Bermuda Triangle. I've also noticed that SyFy is doing 31-days of Halloween which means all of October will be nonstop terror. Hope you're ready to hop on-board the terror train-- no stops until October 31st!

I was sitting at my work desk at home typing up medical reports and feeling sorry for myself because it's my b-day and I should be...I don't know... anything but working. In the middle of another painfully boring report when I went onto Google to look something up and I saw picture of a black cat. I thought to myself, " when was the last time you saw a black cat? " Every time something really awesome happened to me, it was preceded by a black cat wandering along my path. Back to my work, my eyes were getting strained, so I did like I'm supposed to, look at objects far away to refocus your eyes. Thank you Josh Gates for the day-early birthday gift. I've been hoping since I saw, I believe it was Anthony Bourdain ( of all people ), stopping by the doll island in Mexico, that some brave ghost team would head out that way. Thank you Josh Gates for not only an amazing season as the producer of "Destination Truth" but a team that's is perfection. This creepy little island was set up a place to ward off the spirit of a girl who drowned in the nearby canal. The crazy ( or wise ) man who lived there set up dolls as offerings to keep her spirit happy and eventually his entire little island became doll infested for decades; cracking, decaying, hanging just by a head... The ONLY regrets I have about this amazing episode last night was that they didn't cover the island in daylight so we could see all the dolls fully and that they didn't stay another night! I thought I'd interject some lighthearted fun and some seasonal atmosphere with this cute little song about witches. In a time when there was no little actual science or good options for health care, a witch was truly the town doctor. The need for magic was important as the people of that time period depended on nature, the seasons, and the land for everything. When all else failed, there was prayer magic and remedies, comfort and belief. I can see where they might have frightened the male species with the mysteries that they possessed and the ability to empathize in a way only a mother can. Today, I'm honoring their traditions and their place in providing comfort and solace to the masses of the poor and those in rural areas when all else had forgotten them. Yeah, you can do a haunted house with the masses of unwashed teenagers or you can sit at home and dole out one candy for every three you eat, but you could this year do something odd and different. Stop at every other cemetery on the way there. You know, the things that unsettle me the most are the surreal and dream-like films that put me in a world that actually makes me forget this reality exists. I’m giving away my secret recommendation of three of the most surreal and nightmarish films for you to view this season— if you dare. They’re bleak, their apocalyptic, they’re musically and artistically brilliant. One is fairly well heard of, one is very obscure, and the last one is mainstream; a little something for all. Eraserhead: This 1977 David Lynch film is so disturbing, I literally cannot watch it without several strange dreams. I’ve never seen anything even remotely like it. It’s visually stunning and bleak at the same time with a use of lighting that is pure artistry. The use of industrial sound throughout the movie and very little dialogue is moody and unsettling. This one I'm about to recommend was so beautiful and so intelligent and so neat and tidy, it caught my eye right away. I love Cold War-themed subjects and post-apocalyptic imagery. One of my favorite hobbies is photographing abandoned sites and my son’s focus of his art major is filming the crumbling 1950s baby boomer infrastructure as it comes down around his generation’s ears. This extremely talented photographer seems to share our fixation with atomic bombs and Cold War structures. If you’re intrigued by the Cold War era and technology, the hidden fallout shelters and surprisingly hidden missile silos, this is a fantastic blog. He will definitely engage your mind and your artistic eye. I guess it's safe to say that Wednesday is a popular TV night. It seems like all the shows compete, especially the paranormal/conjecture ones. You're going to have to do some mad scrambling during commercials or serious taping ( I personally record "Destination Truth" ). Nostradamus Effect on History Channel (check your local times) A show exploring prophecies through the ages. Mysteryquest on History Channel Scientific expeditions on different subjects—this time, Hitler’s Escape Ghost Hunters on SyFy takes on a courthouse in New Jersey and an 1800s home. Destination Truth on SyFy checks out a Mexican Island legend involving a drowned girl and a sea monster in the Bahamas.

In followup of my post about that fantastically impressive season 3 opener of "Destination Truth," I decided to learn a bit more about the unique location in the woods of Western Romania in the Hoia Baciu Forest. Anyone who's followed this blog in the last few months knows about my findings on my haunted formula that included the importance of geology. I looked up the geology of that area--actually not all that easy. Apparently, Romania has laws against aerial maps. Whatever . Still, I was able to find that gold and copper mining in this mountain range is extensive, loads of limestone and salt. When I think of gold, copper, and salt, I think of electrical conductivity. Hmm ... Going a bit further, I discovered that the copper mining had leached copper into the streams and there were huge issues with toxicity. On the show "Destination Truth" they probed for what sort of symptoms people exhibited in the haunted forest. They rattled off things like vomiting, anxiet...

Take a look at this clip of evidence from the first episode of fantastic Season 3 of "Destination Truth." This clearing in the woods in Romania is extremely creepy and extremely strange. What impressed me the most were the lights and the dude getting thrown. There's no other explanation for a guy sitting Indian style to get launched in less than a second's time. I'd love to hear your reactions. I thought it was chilling and I'm not easily impressed at all!
