Layamon (ca. 1190 - 1215), a Welshman, is self-described in his poem as a priest, living at Areley Kings in Worcestershire, England. Layamon's Brut also known as The Chronicle of Britain, is an epic poem, written in Middle English, which was commonly spoken in his region.
